- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion diced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 cup water
- salt and pepper to taste
- 8 hamburger buns
In a large deep skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and cooked through. Drain the excess fat and discard.
Add diced onion and minced garlic. Stir to combine and cook another few minutes until the onions and garlic become fragrant.
Add tomato paste, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, chili powder, and water. Stir to combine.
Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
Spoon the sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. Top with the other half of the bun and server warm.
